FFS! Now I hear it can cause gyno! So I can't use this than safely.

Isn't Follicept going to be a topical gel of Igf1? So is this the way to go to cure hair loss? What about the gyno and the cancer risks?

Re: Pure IGF - Good for hair regrowth?

I think it is better to get it in a whole food like bovine colostrum.  I'm taking it myself (Immune Tree brand) and my naturally fine, thin hair is showing the good effects.

Excerpted from:
http://www.ehow.co.uk/about_6702492_bovine-colostrum-hair-growth.html

Increased Levels of Insulin-Like Growth Factor (IGF-1)

Bovine colostrum contains many growth factors. A study conducted in Japan at The Department of Translational Medical Science Research at Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences on mice reported that insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-1), which bovine colostrum contains, contributed to “significant enhancements of hair follicle morphogenesis, hair regrowth and hair pigmentation.” A later study conducted in Japan at the same school reported that IGF-1 “plays an important role in hair growth.” The study was conducted over five months, and its goal was to increase levels of IGF-1 in volunteers. Seventeen of the volunteers got a placebo, and the remaining volunteers took active ingredients. The 14 volunteers who were given active ingredients showed promotion of hair growth significantly higher than the group given the placebo.

Nutrition

According to the Mayo Clinic website, “having inadequate protein or iron in your diet or poor nourishment in other ways can cause you to experience hair loss.” Bovine colostrum is a rich source of amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Typical vitamins in bovine colostrum that are associated with hair growth are vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin A and vitamin C. Typical minerals in bovine colostrum that are associated with hair growth are calcium and potassium.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Biochemical Mechanisms

According to The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery website, “Investigators have reported that platelet-rich plasma promotes hair growth from follicles by the action of platelet growth factors on hair follicle stem cells.” Platelet-rich plasma, when used in hair restoration, is administered by a professional in that field. The platelets are derived from the patient's blood. According to the Center for Nutritional Research website, platelet-rich plasma biochemical mechanisms are found in bovine colostrum.

But putting igf1 solution onto the head should be good for hair loss. Heck isn't this what the latest promise from that Florida university is working on? If igf1 solutions already exists why is this Follicept such a big deal. One should get one of those available igf1 solutions already on put it on their heads.

There are many threads in the past on this forum speaking of IGF-1 (be careful).

I agree with Delphine.  It's better to use Bovine Colostrum. It has so many benefits, IGF-1 is just the drop of the bucket.

I've used this one on and off through the years.

I've actually used Colostrum in the past. But didn't stick to it. I think my concern was gyno at that time as well and then I stopped. I've already ordered Colostrum NOW brand on its way. But have also ordered Now IgF spray ( http://www.nowfoods.com/IGF-1plus-Liposomal-Spray-1-oz.htm ) to use it topically on my scalp. My only concern is its side effects. Could using it on my head have gyno effects. And does it show promise against hair loss?

There is evidence it does promote hair growth (in the article I posted above) and it is helping mine.
You don't need to worry about gyno.  Colostrum helps to balance hormones. Oh, I see you are talking about topical use.  I'd advise
taking it internally.
Just found a testimonial from a guy who said it helped his skin as well as hair, and topical application is discussed:
http://www.regrowth.com/hair-loss-forums/topic/colostrum/

CS, I think Immune Tree is the superior brand.  I prefer the powder to capsules, take a couple tablespoons/day.   Held in the mouth, it is healing to the teeth and gums.
I do see mentions of the Symbiotics brand helping hair growth, in the iherb reviews.

I see a poster at the testimonial page said that the IGF-1 in colostrum
"can’t be delivered into the blood stream orally as the stomach acids quickly destroy it." Immune Tree brand contains Chymosin which insures bio-availability of IGF-1 and other
constituents as it passes through the gut.

Colostrum is designed by nature to protect the growth factors, so wouldn't be too worried about digestive acids destroying it.

If money is less object, the best brand that is independently verified is this one Surthrival Colostrum

Immune Tree and Surthrival use the same sources as I understand.  They are basically the same product, independently verified.

I've started swallowing colostrum from Now foods everyday and I'm about to spray the igF on my head as well after dermarolling. I'm still worried about gyno. Tell me to stop if this may lead to gyno. Should I test my igF levels first before doing this?

I'm not clear on why you are concerned about this.
Is it because you think there's a lot of estrogen in it? There isn't.

This is a comprehensive page on the benefits of colostrum. Hormone balance is one.

Would you say it is safe to increase IGF-1 via Colostrum if one has high androgen levels and low SHBG?

DHT inhibits IGF-1...the basic reason why we lose hair by way of androgens.

So basically IGF-1 regulates 5ar activity, rather than increases it. CS you said that Colostrum magnifies the bad effects if you consume wrong foods and that it could cause itch/inflammation, what would than be a reason for such effect? Young people have their free IGF-I levels too high cuz of eating to many processed foods containing sugars and starches, so I always thought that too much (and I know now that even too little) IGF-1 stimulation will result in insulin resistance=over-expressed DHT/5ar=Acne, MPB. So stimulating IGF-1 with Colostrum would be a little gamble for the young as finding the right balance with IGF-1 is the key...

You are overthinking this. Why not just try it for yourself and gauge the effect?

As for it being a "gamble for the young," remember its main purpose is to boost the immune system of newborns! It is specifically for the young Smile
