Vit D low - Calcium high

Post  Nettlo on Sun Nov 15, 2015 9:09 pm

Hi guys,
I wanted your thoughts about some blood tests I conducted a few weeks ago, because it makes no sense with what I've read here and online.
I do have an insufficient Vit D level :

25 OH Vitamine D (D2 + D3) .............. 64 nmol/l (26 ng/mL)

Deficiency: < 25 nmol/l (< 10 ng/ml)
Insufficent: 25 à 75 nmol/l (10 à 30 ng/ml)
Normal: 75 à 175 nmol/l (30 à 70 ng/ml)
Intoxication: > 375 nmol/l (> 150 ng/ml)

However, I do have a high level of calcium !!

Calcium .......................................... 2,55 mmol/l     normal range: 2,15 - 2,50
Colorimétrie AU5800 Beckman 102 mg/l                       normal range: 86 - 100

and high iron:
Ferritine .......................................... 206 μg/l normal range: 20 - 250

Is it not illogical? I always read that low vit D was associated with low calcium.
I'm surprised to have that amount of calcium since I stopped any dairy products from more than 5 years now..

I think I may have prediabete (always thirsty, high albumin level etc.) , may it be something related?

thanks for your opinion guys

It appears that you have primary hyperparathyroidism. Would have this checked out immediately.

Based on your D and Calcium figures...you are just at the minimum range (calcium wise) to be considered for why your vitamin D is low.

That begins at 2.55 mmol/L (the same as 10.2 mg/dl)

Yeah CS is probably right. You have low vit D and probably low calcium intake.. so your body boosted up your PTH in order to leech calcium from your bones to get it's calcium. You are basically experiencing calcification right now. Low Vit D means you are not absorbing calcium as well as you should.. calcium isn't being added via your diet so your parathyroid hormone is like.. shit yo.. i need some calcium.. leech that shit from the bones, we not getting it anywhere else.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is usually caused by a tumor within the parathyroid gland. The symptoms of the condition relate to the elevated calcium levels, which can cause digestive symptoms, kidney stones, psychiatric abnormalities, and bone disease.
