Quick Question About Gelatin Powder

Post  johndoe1225 on Tue Dec 01, 2015 6:22 am

Hey all

I'm going to start taking gelatin powder for hair and skin but I can only find one brand at the Vitamin Shoppe by me, it's "100% Bovine Gelatin", and the label says:

Product Label

   BERNARD JENSEN'S 100% BOVINE GELATIN

Unflavored - Unsweetened - Made from Beef - No Pork - Made in the U.S.A.

"The Food of a Thousand Uses", particularly useful in normal all food gelatin preparations. One level tablespoonful of 100% Pure Gelatin will jell one pint of liquid. Use with any good recipe calling for gelatin.

Does not contain pork.

Does this seem acceptable?  It's strange that there's only this one brand.

Also, how much should I take for hair and skin support (and general health of course)?  I don't usually pay much attention to the recommended serving size. Is this the right type for collagen support?

Thanks  Very Happy

I saw a guy here in Asia getting ready to sell collagen product. He had a jar of what I think was powdered cow bone. Amazing that these are desired and profitable products. I guess gelatin is more dried cartilage.
As far as quality, organic would be nice. Kosher is another option, guess that means it has no blood, fat, or pork. I suppose you are up on getting flavaniods and vitamin C to help with the proper elastiin rebuilding of the skin.

Ok thanks, but as of now I think I'll use that one, I'll try to find one like you mention though

Also I hear gelatin makes a nice exfoliating face mask "peel"

I'm wondering about how to dissolve it though, I heard you need hot water or it won't really dissolve, I wonder if it'll just turn to Jello Shocked
