From the second material: "Participants applied one milliliter of solution (minoxidil 2% or rosemary oil lotion containing 3.7 mg 1,8-cineole per mL) to the frontoparietal and crown areas of the scalp twice daily for six months."

Hi, I'm looking for someone a bit more scientifically inclined than I to explain how to dose "rosemary oil lotion containing 3.7 mg 1,8-cineole per mL."
1.8-cineole must be referring to rosemary oil, but "3.7ml per mL" of a carrier oil must mean a 3.7 to 1 ratio? Is this correct?

^ Is there a point where you can have too much oil and it reduces the effectiveness?

Also what was the "carrier oil" they used? Like castor oil or something? Would that be ok?

Just saving these notes to this thread so I don't lose them...

Someone on another forum linked to the full paper online (Page 15, but 17 according to the reader app)

  • issuu.com/pulsemarketing/docs/skinmed_v13_i1

It says the product used was Rosemary oil lotion [...] provided by the Barij Essence Pharmaceutical Company.

Barij product website in Persian(?):

  • barijessence.com/?page_id=4430

Webpage in English with what appears to be the same product:

  • zoodel.com/en/Rosemary-Hair-and-Eyebrow-Tonic-Solution/117.63611.010.htm

So it's basically a regular essential oil?

Both pages list the same application instructions "With your fingertips, massage 10 to 15 drops (men) or 15 to 20 drops (women) of rosemary essential oil on the desired area of the scalp, for 2 minutes at least. Do this twice a day, in the morning and at night."

One noteworthy line from the product website translates as "After 4 weeks of regular use, hair loss is commonly indicated, and the growth of new hair will be stimulated with continued use. Rosemary lotion makes thick and thick hair"

I was looking into this again and found some Chinese sellers.
One of them had high res photos which showed ingredients listed: https://imgur.com/a/zoVfz

So the full ingredients for Barij's "Rosemary Lotion" is actually: Essential oils of Rosmarinus officinalis, Zataria multifloraand Myrtus communis, Propylene glycol, ethanol
Myrtle is apparently a known hair remedy in the Arab world.
"Zataria multiflora Boiss. (ZM) is a thyme-like plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family that grows wild only in Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. This plant with the vernacular name of Avishan-e-Shirazi (Shirazi thyme) in Iran is a valuable medicinal and condimental plant"

Here is another company selling an identical product: http://www.georgianremedy.com/en/page/rosemary
In fact the instructions read similarly to the translation of the Barij site:

This lotion is not edible. Like all other medications, keep out of sight and reach of children Recap the container tightly right after administration and keep away from light, in 15-30 C. Hair loss should stop after about 4 weeks of regular use, and with continued usage growth of new hair should be stimulated. Rosemary also causes the existing fluffy and delicate hair to thicken.

I found a UK site which sells the Barij lotion (Henna Herbals). They seem to sell mainly Iranian cosmetic products. so anyone who wanted to try this stuff could try asking somewhere that also imports Iranian stuff.

CS suggested rosemary a while back. I actually bought a bottle last year but it failed and failed miserably. Just kidding. I couldn't be bothered continuing to apply it, so don't know how effective it is. Topicals aren't really my thing. Not saying they're bad, nor useless, just not my thing.
