Large doses of n-acetyl cysteine (NAC).

Post  CampOfDavid on Sat Mar 26, 2016 3:40 pm

As I have been scanning the internet I have noticed two people on separate threads talking about large doses of  n-acetyl cysteine (NAC) either stopping hair-loss or growing it back.
I can't post links as a new member, so I will just post their comments:

On Swisstemples ask site, a person made this comment:

////////////////////
"I stopped all shedding and inflammation 20 yrs ago with n acetyl cysteine high dose. But I have never recovered my hairline or my thin spot in the back. So I am starting castor oil plus limonene on hairline and bald spot. What do you think the efficacy of castor oil versus true pge2 is?"
-
"That's really cool I hope you're telling people about your success.
Castor or better said ricinoleic acid is one of four pge2 receptor agonists. So at best it is one fourth as strong."
////////////////////

Then on a totally separate site a person said this:

////////////////////
I've recently seen reversal of male pattern baldness on one side of my widow's peak. Skin that had been completely hairless for years now has thick colored hairs, and the hairline is lower. However this has happened only on one side, in a small area.

I experiment constantly with supplements and food, so it's difficult to know why this occurred, but I think the cause was one or more of the following:

1. I started taking large doses of n-acetyl cysteine (NAC) shortly before the regrowth occurred. (I was also taking glutathione but that wasn't new.)

2. Eight months ago I suddenly lost a great deal of hair. It fell out in clumps. I think this was telogen effluvium caused by switching from a clinical ketogenic diet to a non-ketogenic diet. Within a few months, all the hair that was lost to telogen effluvium grew back. Maybe some "extra" grew back.

3. I had used minoxidil for years, but had stopped using it about a year ago. When the telogen effluvium occurred I began using it again for a while.

4. I took antibiotics (doxycycline, azithromycin, ampicillin) for a couple of months.

Of these four possible causes, I think NAC is the most likely.

I wonder if the regrowth was due to remedying a sulfur deficiency.

In order to try to promote more regrowth, I'm now eating large amounts of sulfur-containing vegetables and eggs and continuing to take NAC and glutathione as supplements.
////////////////////

Does any one have any input on n-acetyl cysteine (NAC) and its effect on male pattern baldness?

Thank you in advance Smile

the first one, stopping hairloss would be possible with NAC only if hairloss was caused by heavy metals and not mpb.

2nd one, he states he lost it in clumps. again not from mpb, from another form. when it falls out like this, it can regrow when imbalance is corrected or just because it grows back for no reason other than immune system has healed.

as a treatment for mpb, it wont work. for other forms of hairloss, maybe.

a great treatment for paracetamol/acetaminophen over dose though, always a great thing to have in medicine cabinet.

Hey David

For Sulfur, I read that it's very hard to get it from foods (unless you eat them raw). I take a ton of MSM for Sulfur, combined with Vitamin C.
