Masturbation.

Post  Decro435 on Tue Jul 14, 2009 8:02 pm

I hate to bring this post up. But, what exactly are your thoughts on masturbation. Is there any effect on hormone levels in daily masturbation. Is it essentially healthy to masturbate everyday?

Post  CausticSymmetry on Tue Jul 14, 2009 8:39 pm

Decro435 - Over the years I've read a lot of different opinions on this topic, so here's mine.

There was a time (several years) when after banging my chick I would get this inflammation on my forehead and scalp. Presumably it was an increase in prolactin--which just so happens to increase DHT. Sometimes were worse than others, and at sometimes there was no apparently inflammation. But these days such inflammation does not exist at all.

This inflammation could be neurogenic inflammation, prolactin induced DHT inflammation or both.

So in theory it would make sense that abstaining would prevent this inflammation. But in any event, this effect is no longer present regardless of frequency for me.

One concern about the idea of abstaining is that prostatic fluid release is a healthy way to expel metals which tend to accumulate in the prostate. Without regular release, there is an increased risk of prostate cancer.

I'd prefer to "have my cake and eat it too" and fortunately as I have discovered, I can!

Any other food or supplement except Chasteberry extract which reduces prolactin ? I know of this one "Mucuna pruriens " but not sure if it's safe and really effective?

I've been unemployed now for six months now and my self-love has been quite excessive during that time. (Damn you internet.) Thankfully, I have no extra hair loss to report. Also, it's good to hear that I might be ridding my prostate of unwanted metals. I'm currently taking modified citrus pectins as well, so perhaps the manual and supplemental combination will work as the perfect prostate detox. That would be freakin sweet.

I like to bang girls, but I don't bang myself, real shit is the shit, masturbation is a waste of time.

From my experience with ejaculation i've noticed my hair generally stronger and scalp a lot less inflammed if i abstain atleast a week at a time or more if I can. Though I must warn this generally doesn't 'fly' with girls I've dated as they take offense when they can't 'finish the job'.

Re: Masturbation.

I am not 18 anymore, so my views may be skewed - I do not think masturbating everyday is going to be healthy. If the goal is to empty prostate - you are more than covered with weekly episodes may be even longer.

I believe the sensations are way different when you are with someone of the "sinf-e-nazuk" - and that must lead to different body and brain chemistry during "real-sex" vs masturbation. So for me the two are not only physically different, I think they each lead to different chemical outcomes. Based on that I deduce, masturbation is a little bit out of the norm, our bodies were created for procreation and hence the system is generally wired for such behavior. if you follow this line (you may not) then you may think that you are forcing your body to something itiss not primarily wired for, may be Un-natural (too strong a word?) - cannot be so healthy.

OK having said that, I do not think masturbation is so bad - just cannot be so healthy doing this everyday from my point of view. After ejacualtion, your system does go into a lull mode - this is nature's way of protecting the system from burn out.

The goal should be to avoid getting sexually exhausted - once you burn out it is very difficult to rebuild. How many of us are able to figure CFS out before stress burns out our Adrenals? not many, usually it is very late in the game and the recovery then becomes a monumental task. In the days when used to masturbate this is what I experienced :

A week of abstinence led to drier hair, funny isn't it, but that's what happened. But 3-4 weeks into abstinence hair looked better, no or very very little hair-fall in the shower, this is not an exaggeration, I feel me scalp is sensitive to DHT. Do note that I was almost addicted to this habit, 5-6 times a day. It was hard to leave but it was worth it, my energy, concentration levels went up, hair fall reduced to almost none, more energy to hump women and pump iron, life is just better without it man. The key to losing this habit lies in the mind, no thought : no action. If a thought emerges side-step it, that's it, that is all there is to it.

I can almost say with certainty that my hair loss was 'induced' by those years of heavy masturbation, I do believe I can go back to early 20's perfect hairline, from 23 to 25 I lost hair fast on the top of my scalp but if I comb properly it almost seems I have no hair loss at all (I am 27 now). In the last 2 weeks I have noticed many terminal hairs becoming thick hairs growing faster than others on both my temples, my hair is also looking thicker and fuller. I am very very pleased with my progress and cannot thank this forum enough here.

lund - I have experienced those lull modes a lot. That's what I wanted to escape, that feeling of complete uselessness, and boredom that creeps in with masturbation. Only later did I realize that masturbation is a terrific loss of energy and has a effect on body chemistry even though the medical circles will deny this to no end.

Guys, i used to think this theory was pure bullshit, but i don't know anymore. As an experiment, i masturbated 3 times today. First session was in the morning and the last session was before dinner. I definitely felt some kind of inflamed pain in the crown and top scalp area after the last session.

I'm gonna ween myself off from masturbating and eventually make it a monthly thing (it'll probably be sex and not masturbation). Man, this is gonna be tougher than the time i gave up smoking....

Glacier, do you think your hair regeneration was mostly do to diet, supplements, stopping masturbation, or a mix of the three?

Interesing article Espio.

I remember reading an article on longevity which included a very elderly Chinese man who attributed his longevity to not having sex in something like 70 years. I assume he means very little sex though.

Here is quote from "trouble" on my theory (sex with a partner - gosh hopefully it does not matter hetro or homo is different than masturbating alone to Porn):

"...Sex is more pleasurable with your partner because of the plethora of neurochemicals released, endorphins and endocanninoids (note how headaches may be temporarily relieved by a the chemical distraction of a good nookie??), beyond oxytocin and PEA..."

And is here is the evidence of them being different (good or bad you decide)....

Biol Psychol. 2006 Mar;71(3):312-5. Epub 2005 Aug 10.Related Articles, Links

The post-orgasmic prolactin increase following intercourse is greater than following masturbation and suggests greater satiety.

Division of Psychology, School of Social Sciences, University of Paisley, Scotland, UK. stuartbrody@hotmail.com

Research indicates that prolactin increases following orgasm are involved in a feedback loop that serves to decrease arousal through inhibitory central dopaminergic and probably peripheral processes. The magnitude of post-orgasmic prolactin increase is thus a neurohormonal index of sexual satiety. Using data from three studies of men and women engaging in masturbation or penile-vaginal intercourse to orgasm in the laboratory, we report that for both sexes (adjusted for prolactin changes in a non-sexual control condition), the magnitude of prolactin increase following intercourse is 400% greater than that following masturbation. The results are interpreted as an indication of intercourse being more physiologically satisfying than masturbation, and discussed in light of prior research reporting greater physiological and psychological benefits associated with coitus than with any other sexual activities.

Also we have to keep in mind, if someone is jacking off 5-6 times a day, he may also be showering 5-6 times a day to clean up. Showering will expose him to chlorine and fluoride which will cause hypothyroidism.

Last time I went a long time without sex or masturbation I ended up having wet dreams again like I was a teenager. So I believe abstention is actually unnatural..the body wants to be rid of its seed...and we must obey!

Espio :

A combination of diet, exercise, abstinence and supplements is what works for me. You have to do everything to get all possible factors in your favor. Giving up masturbation was the first step, this halted the nasty hair loss in the shower, that is so depressing as we all know. 5-6 times was a 'high' for me generally 1-2 times was the norm, I was addicted and it got worse with time. During this time I lost a lot of hair. After giving up masturbation my hair started to improve, note that I never was slick bald, I have 100s of terminal hairs between the large thick hairs, a left over of the loss I am guessing. Even now if I comb nobody can tell I have lost hair, I used to have thick fast growing hair and I want that back.

With the supplements (top 6 and some of my own additions), exercise and a good diet many of these terminal hairs have started to come back and many more new have propped up on old low hairline, this is quite encouraging. I also lift weights a lot, it helped me channel my bubbling energy from masturbation to build muscle, sometimes I will workout for hour or more doing 30-35 sets of single exercise such as barbell rows. Diet : I was never a fast food eater, hardly ever eat anything from a package or a can. I cook my meals, but I eat clean and with a lot of discipline. Brown rice and chicken is a staple, with fruits anything goes but pomegranates are my favourite. I do take pasteurized milk and plan on changing this to almond milk.

The real oomph of recovery came with this forum and IH recommendations and that very informative 'Physiology' page. I think everything else diet, exercise, abstinence support and amplify it, you got to get everything in your favour. I have never used Rogaine or any other commercial products. I do however use Saw Palmetto, it did help early on, it still might be doing something in there and I really do not want to change something that's working.

Nashville :

What you are experiencing are withdrawal symptoms, if you want to give up you would have to go through this to some extent, controlling your thoughts and reacting to external stimuli is the key.

blech:

I really don't know to be honest. My reasons for giving up masturbation were other than hair loss, it's only later that I realized that it had played a major part. I would say 6-7 months after giving up, revising my diet, exercise habits my hair stopped falling. Supplementation came late, I have been following CS recommendations for only 3.5 weeks, my hair just all of sudden came to life. I have a strong feeling that starting supplementation after fixing the 'basics' of health is contributing to this. You just have to get as many factors on your side and work on amplifying them, become more disciplined and then hopefully somewhere along the line things will start to come together. I am not saying masturbation is bad or contributes to hair loss, just basing my results on my own personal experience, it may or may not work for you.

I will say this...anyone familiar with the Gracie family? They're the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The father, who is in his 90s now and still in great shape, along with his brothers and what-not, never had sex for recreation--ONLY procreation. The family as a whole is the pinnacle of health.

Just something to think of. Smile

I do not avoid women... but I do deny them my essence.

Post  dantien on Fri Jul 17, 2009 4:53 am

Reading this topic, this classic scene came to mind...

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Lord, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don't, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Uh, Jack, Jack, listen, tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first... become... well, develop this theory?
General Jack D. Ripper: Well, I, uh... I... I... first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No.
General Jack D. Ripper: But I... I do deny them my essence.

I am 18 and started masturbating me since the 14, I masturbate 2 or 3 times a week and have no sign of hair loss (Not have MPB) I think masturbation can not hurt because it is something in our body

I've asked this question a couple of times before and most of the times the general consensus was that if you don't over do it, it should be fine. I think more than 3 times a week is considered as 'excessive'.
