Have had tinnitus since I was 18. Mine was definitely brought on by playing drums w/o earplugs for a while. Studies have also shown smoking puts one at greater risk for hearing loss through oxidative stress on protective mechanisms within the hair cells. I smoked almost pack a day for 11 years. I'm positive this further worsened my tinnitus and gave me very very minor hearing loss.

Supplements I can think of off top of head that have been demonstrated to help are magnesium, NAC, vinpocetine, ginkgo. They all seem to have negligible effects on me as far as T but possibly the vinpocetine works the best.

May want to give them a try to see if they help.

I hear taurine is good for tinnitis too.

It's multicausal, so the true cause is not easy to spot. It can be a bit unique playground until all potential causes are addressed:

- infection: ear, dental
- heavy metal poisoning (mercury and lead in particular)
- oxidative stress induced by loud sounds, EMF (mind your cellphone, and general electropolution)
- TMJ and occlusion problems
- trauma as injury, hit
- arterial disease
- structure defects that impair blood flow
- lack of supportive nutrients:

Possible treatments:
- nutritional: ginko, vinpocetine, pinebark extract, curcumin, magnesium, zinc, lecithin, melatonin
- sauna therapy
- chelation
