MTHFR C677T

Post  lookalike on Wed Dec 14, 2016 6:23 pm

I just found out that I am homozygous for the gene mutation MTHFR C677T (T/T).  It means I have a 70% reduction in my body's ability to metabolize folate and folic acid. It causes many health complications including depression, brain fog, fatigue, as well as plays a role in more serious cardiovascular problems, macular degeneration, alzheimer's, hearing loss and cancer.

I am wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with this. If so please let me know about your experiences in dealing with it. Also, if you have never been screened for it, I highly recommend doing so because it can play a role in your offspring having spinal complications at birth as well as increased risk of miscarriage.

I work with it all the time with clients. It's not very straight forward because other SNP's may compensate, so the best advise is to try some of the active form and see if it provides a boost in mood/energy.
