Almond Milk ?!?
I see almond milk flung around everywhere like it's no big deal. Like it's not an eager goitrogen that I dare not eat more than ten or so a day else I can literally feel my thyroid bulge.
So what am I missing here?

I believe it matters if you are hypothyroid, consume no iodine, have a specific disease or just over do goitrogenic foods.
Also, different methods of preparations like soaking (also eliminates/reduces enzyme inhibitors) and fermenting might remove their goitrogenic properties.
Take the full spectrum of vitamins and minerals, take your iodine, reach iodine sufficency and restore your thyroid levels (if necessary) and you won't have anything to worry about.

Re: Almond Milk ?!?
Probably the biggest concern about almond milk is how is it sweetened. Based on some studies, foods that contain goitrogens are safe just as long as you take enough iodine.

Re: Almond Milk ?!?
Boiling the almonds in steaming hot water for 15-20 minutes before soacking them in warm water overnight might be a good idea.

Almond Products
Excuse my ignorance. Why exactly are almonds and almond based products bad for you? What affect do they have on the thyroid and are they related to hair loss? I ask because I have been eating a tablespoon of almond butter daily mixed in an almond milk based shake. I have done this for about a year now. Not sure if it’s related but my hair has been thinning rapidly since I started.
Your advice is much appreciated.

Re: Almond Milk ?!?
Yeah, I've been having almond milk (either with a shake or in my granola everyday for about two years). I use the Blue Diamond vanilla/unsweetened. While at work, I often snack on almonds -- sometimes 30+ a day. I had no idea it was goitergenic until just recently. I'll be cutting back for sure. I know soy milk isn't a good idea, and I imagine hemp milk is goitergenic as well, so what's everyone's opinion on rice milk? Too much sugar content?
