3 main types of hair loss
1. Chronic Telogen Effluvium
You'll see noticeable thinning and bald spots in patches with this type of hair loss.
It's seen most often in women because they lose blood during their menstrual cycle. Not replacing the iron lost during your period causes you to have an iron deficiency. The Iron deficiency causes you to lose your hair.
It takes a long time for this to happen. It takes years and years of iron deficiency for women to start losing their hair. However, the damage done is reversible.
Eating green leafy vegetables or raw meat (with orange juice) will usually give you enough iron to combat this kind of hair loss. Unlike iron supplements, getting your iron from real foods makes it nearly impossible to overdose. If you do decide to get your iron from real foods consult your doctor first.
2. Androgenic Hair Loss
Androgenic Hair Loss causes noticeable round bald patches in your hair starting in the front and extending across the top of your head.
This type of hair loss is considered genetic. This means that if your parents suffered from hair loss then you probably will too. However, it's not guaranteed.
Fighting this kind of hair loss is difficult but it can be done. There are several different products out there that deal with androgenic hair loss. There are a few popular FDA approved treatments for this kind of baldness.
There are also some herbs that are popular "dht blockers". Saw Palmetto, Nettle Root and Dong Quai just to name a few.
Which ever treatment you decide to use you'll have to stick it out for at least 6 months to see any results. Even the strongest FDA approved hair loss drugs at least take that long to start working.
3. Hormone related hair loss
You don't have to worry about this type of hair loss. Usually it's a temporary form of hair loss that takes place after pregnancy.
During pregnancy women stop shedding their usual amount of hair. After giving birth the body goes back to normal and the shedding takes place once again.
Some women lose their hair from taking a hormone called DHEA. A few women often mistake DHEA for other supplements (like DHA). You should avoid taking this drug at all cost.

I find your post really useful. It gives a fine scientific explanation on hair loss. To have a nice, shiny, healthy hair you can follow following tips.
• Drink more water
• Get an adequate sleep
• Have a healthy diet
• Comb your hair
• Do oil treatments and massages
• Get rid from dandruffs
• Do not use cheap products (shampoo, hair colors etc.) available in the market.
