I have an unopened bottle of the NOW brewers yeast. I'll try it out and see as I'm a pretty good gauge of free glutamic acid.
Looking forward to your feedback. I'll say one thing, since using brewer's yeast I haven't have a single acne outbreak, no matter what kind of junk I eat the day before, it's pretty amazing.

Re: Here we go again....
Although I am not a big fan of synthetic vitamins myself, this article serves to indirectly imply that all nutritional supplements are ineffective or dangerous. Articles such as these do a huge disservice to the public because misguided opinions such as this may shy someone away from an effective natural treatment. Some of the things that this article alludes to is flat out irresponsible; "Feeding mice a diet poor in antioxidants, on the other hand, can actually help shrink their brain tumors" So there you have it folks, if you don't want brain tumors stay away from those vegetables! Ironic since that type of diet is why cancer is such an epidemic today. This is a subject that I am very passionate about as I have experienced firsthand what it is like to lose a close family member to cancer and during that time, watched them go through the devastating side effects of the "treatments" of chemo and radiation which in the end did more harm than good. As for myself, I was put on Zoloft as a teen for years for ocd and anxiety which did little to help and I ended up much worse off upon cessation and as a nice parting gift, the side effect of tinnitus which continues to this day. Thus, I no longer have a very positive view of allopathic medicine. Through taking an orthomolecular approach, using supplements, and changing my diet, I have begun to get my life back on track. I did not mean to go off on such tangent or personal rant, but this is something that I feel very strongly about. I am new to this forum and look forward to the continued knowledge and information that is being shared within this community.

Hey CausticSymmetry,
I can confirm that the Now Brewers yeast, the one that you take, 8 of the tables contain small to moderate amounts of free glutamic acid and contains "very small" amounts of oxalates. The free glutamic acid is less than the Lewis Labs Brewers Yeast but still enough where I wouldn't want to take it before a meal or an an empty stomach as the toxicity to the brain is amplified that way. I still plan on taking it just not in large amounts.
hope this helps

taking BY or free glutamate after food on full stomach ,alleviates the possible damaging effect to the brain cells?
You are planning taking the BY after food?

Re: Here we go again....
Yes to both questions.
You definitely don't want to eat free glutamic acid when you're hungry. Most people do by snacking on potato chips, etc. throughout the day though.
Here is a good quote
"Brain – during periods of hypoglycemia where low blood glucose levels leave the brain with low defenses, or allergy response where the blood vessels become "leaky", MSG may cross the blood brain barrier and damage brain cells by excitatory neurotoxicity. By affecting the pancreas and creating a situation of hypoglycemia, MSG may bring down the brain’s barriers, carrying it’s own key, in a sense, to get to the brain."

So again, if consuming free glutamic acid, you definitely want to eat it after a meal.

Re: Here we go again....
jdp710 - Thanks for checking out brewer's yeast. Of course, unlike the unhealthy yeasts found in processed foods I believe in general brewer's yeast should be well tolerated in most people.
In any case, good suggestion about when to take it. I probably do not have any sensitivity to it, as I actually take it before my meals.
