Shedding Myth

Shedding Myth

Post  Serge on Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:09 am

So I have a rather difficult question (I think)…

I’ve heard many posters on here say that during a 'bad shed' the hair that falls out may not grow back.

How is this possible? If a thick healthy strand of hair falls out of your head wouldn’t it continue to grow after 2 or 3 months of the resting phase? Could a follicle really seize up and close completely during that short of time—especially while on the top six? Or are these people claiming to lose their hair in an instant just giving up too soon?

I think what has been speculated is whether shedded hair comes back healthier and stronger or weaker and fuzzier. In my experience all my sheds have been bad, meaning, I never saw anything growing back stronger.. even the finasteride shed. I wonder if the whole "shedding is and indication that its working" is a commercial myth made up by those who have eqonomical interest in you. I wonder what my hair would have looked like today if I didtn wear out that horrible horrible minox shed I had during the first month of using it. I get angry !

Ah well apparently the Minoxidil shed is due to hairs that are already in telogen shedding early, usually to be replaced with new, thicker hairs Smile

I'm not sure if I could recommend Minoxidil though! At the moment my main and only topical is Nizoral, but then I'm still a relative noob!

Minoxidil was the first treatment I used. It caused a conentrated shed where applied (edges of hairline) and the hairs never grew back. No vellous or anything.

I too seem to have a TE condition for 3-4 months now. I started a few supplements but dropped after 2-3 weeks seeing the shed. The shed however continues and I think the main reason has to do with stress over this whole situation. I'm also wondering about the quality of the regrowth. Can this TE be coupled with accelerated MPB or will I see it coming back?
I'm 32 and the reason I started with some supplements is because of some thinning on top, however the condition seemed stable over the last years. I wish now I had not started to worry at all about it.
