CS-Cavity prevention/remineralization

Post  Southbeach on Sun Apr 11, 2010 6:03 am

In addition to the obvious, such as flossing daily, mouthwash, and rinsing after citrus beverages or vinegar, I 'm taking 7,000iu 0f D3, ionized magnesium powder(calms), and drinking Green Tea 2-3 day. Is there more I can be doing? Any input would be appreciated, I've got a indentation growing right smack on my front tooth.

Thanks

Southbeach - Avoid fluoride or any toothpastes containing glycerin (which is 97% of them). Many mouthwashes can inhibit nitric oxide, so may want to avoid those. Magnesium oil or Xylitol work pretty well as mouthwashes.

Instead of toothpastes, salt water or baking soda, or tooth soap is best.

Are you taking any vitamin K2?

redhead - Here's a tooth soap, although I've never tried it:

Here's where the non-iherb toothsoaps come from:

Or you can just use salt water or regular soap or baking soda--they will all work just fine.

For a mouthwash, a small amount of this stuff diluted with some water.

Or Xylitol works pretty well.

I have to say CS, even diluted in water, the magnesium chloride mouth wash still has me concerned about damaging my teeth. It makes them feel softer, kind of like after having a bunch of OJ, you sure it doesn't have any affect on the enamel?

btw, I recently dropped toothpaste in favor of brushing with salt water, so far so good!

Thanks CS- No-I'm not taking K, but will add it'. Is it really possible to completely stop the progression of cavities that are not yet in root Canal territory?

CS - I just had two cavities filled in a few months ago, before I learned any of this stuff. They fillings are pretty big, even though I opted for the expensive porcelain ones, they still look unnatural, and of course, the health risks. I deeply regret it, I hate missing part of my teeth. Is remineralization enough to restore my teeth? Do I need to have them removed to restore them?

CS... Do you think is even possible to grow the lost part of a broken tooth through remineralization?

I really like this idea of remineralizing my teeth, but I'd like to see more information on it. I mean, how effective is it for the average Joe who doesn't start with perfect teeth? How long do noticeable results take, any case studies?

Regarding the magnesium rinse. I'm not 100% sure how safe or unsafe it is. I have rinsed with magnesium chloride on many occasions and yes it creates the temporary sensation that feel unhealthy. However, I have found no ill effects with it personally--it just feels weird until I rinse it out and let the mouth recover.

There is a limit to recovery if the tooth is chipped or cracked--I do not believe these can be fixed (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

As far as reminerlization, yes cavitations can be repaired naturally--provided that fluoride is not used and that the proper diet and supplement measures are used.

Here is a book by someone who simply studied the works of Dr. Weston Price and found good success with his families teeth.

Thanks, will check it out. I've already switched to baking soda, and am fairly sure we don't put fluorine in the water here (UK).

Sorry that I kind of duplicated this thread with mine about teeth "healing" lol Smile

But yeah I'm very much considering doing this as well. I think I'm going to give good doses of vitamin D3 and K2 a go as I mean, it's on the IH regimen anyway! I'll combine that with some good antioxidants, ditch the toothpaste in favour of.. saltwater or something preferable (there are a lot of natural toothpastes so maybe I'll just have a browse) and perhaps also throw in another internal treatment and is there anything you can use in the mouth itself that encourages remineralization? Also of course I need to make sure I clean the areas thoroughly don't I, to ensure it remineralizes properly? One of the fillings is quite deep as I remember Sad

I'll have a good look into it again later! Man I'm looking forward to getting this mercury out of my mouth! lol I hope it helps me!

Hoppipolla - When unimpeded by fluoride, saliva contains factors that encourage remineralization.

Wicked ok, well I think that's that I think I'm set! I'll have a chat to my dentist when I go there, see what he thinks, and cut back drastically on fruit and stuff while the tooth is vulnerable (like I say the cavity is quite deep, not a root canal or anything I don't think, just I remember it being very dark down there before I had it filled Shocked, so I'm a little worried about doing it but I know it's the best idea for the long run).

I'll maybe use something like the tooth soap or whatever to help the salt water. I'm on a whole GRAM of calcium every day as it's part of my magnesium tablets, but I know like you said that doesn't really make the difference, so I'll ensure I'm on high D3 and K2 doses!

It will be rather cool if this works! How long do you think it takes for signs of remineralization to show? I'm sure it will do my other teeth the world of good as well Smile
