Iodine Update..

Post  Decro435 on Thu Aug 26, 2010 11:45 am

My original experience with Iodine was great but as time goes on it seems to be getting less effective for me. I used to get a energy rush and zero scalp inflammation when taking only one drop of Iodine. Now it seems no matter what amount I take it won't produce the same results. If anything my situation has got worse, especially the inflammation and hair loss. Also, I've been waking up feeling with flu type symptoms every morning for the last few weeks.

Why has Iodine's effects worn off?.

I'm not salt loading, does this mean that I'm not excreting the halides?. Should I expect to make no progress without adding something to deal with heavy metals?. Is it heavy metals that are causing my inflammation?. How long does it usually take to completely detox?.

One thing I don't understand is how Thyroid disorders cause hair loss via DHT. What is the connection between the Thyroid and DHT. I know I probably won't get an answer for this.

Another problem I had, was bad reactions with my heart due to Iodine. A few nights ago I had extreme uncomfortable heart where it seems like it might be beating too slowly and I also had trouble breathing. I felt seconds away from fainting, my arms went numb. I had to keep tapping my chest and breathing heavily for about 2 hours. Quite scary.

When I started taking Iodine, I had heart palpitations. Salt loading helped get rid of this. Considering the amount of info regarding iodine and salt water flushes, it seemed like a no brainer to me.

Thyroid is an important part of the hormone chain. Can change everything. Low T, high prolactin etc...DHT is just the final little nugget. Taking pills like propecia to combat DHT is just blocking the final piece of the puzzle.

I too had heart issues when taking iodine, I suppose it is all the bromine that gets stirred up as a result. In any case, I never salt loaded, but the weird heart effects cleared up when I started taking 50mg a day rather than 12.5mg I was taking. I take selenium as well, you may want to take things that bind to all the shit iodine stirs up.

Why do you think it is Bromine that causes the problems?.

I also meant to add I have serious fatigue every day. Is this a sign of being toxic?.

A while back, jdp posted a great link on the effects of bromide toxicity. Because so much iodine is taken after none had been taken at all for many years, you will stir up a ton of bromine because of the fact that iodine displaces it do well. From what I remember, heart palps, fatigue, anxiety, and some ocular issues were among the listed side effects of all that stirred up bromine. If I still had the link I'd post it, but I lost all my bookmarks. Larger doses of iodine will chelate more than just stir up, so you could always try taking much higher amounts with some selenomethionine for mercury and see how you feel.

@FireFist - Lugol's iodine.

See the problem is that I only experienced heart problems after increasing Iodine. I kind of associate the heart trouble with the more Iodine I take, so I'm quite reluctant to take high amounts. But, for the fun of it, I'm going to take a high dose tomorrow and see what happens. Do you guys honestly believe that this is a detox symptom or if it's my Thyroid acting up?.

The only reason I'm still taking Iodine was because of how great I felt the first few days of taking Iodine. Great energy, no inflammation, very low hair loss and a great mood and outlook. As time went on, the inflammation crept back and energy plummeted. I tried to counter this by trying higher levels of Iodine, but still have only got worse.

So from the internet what I'm being told is that I'm toxic, with all those halides etc., stirred up due to the Iodine intake. What I'm worried about is that Iodine is making a problem worse. Maybe I have Hasimotos, which is controversial to whether or not Iodine should be used. I feel terrible at the moment and want to fix that.

From what I understand, salt loading has helped people with bromide removal symptoms like your own, why don't you just salt load?

Decro,

Make sure you are taking Selenium with your iodine. IH has stressed in here on many occasions that is borderline malpractice to not take selenium when using iodine. Also take them at separate times.

Decro... Are you 100% positive that you are clear from heavy metals? Because I am not and I noticed less shedding this week when I started taking Iodine/Selenium with Humuvlifate. Just like IH said, these two work synergistically. Humilivfate and Iodine. My hair has not gotten better but less shedding/inflammation.

Tooyoung----

I have Salt loaded a few times, I suppose I'm being stupid and because I don't like the taste I just don't do it consistently.
But, definitely from now on I will.

Hadrion----

I've been taking Selenium as well as Thyroid Energy Supplements. About 400mcg of Selenium. I interested as to why you say you should take them at different times?.

randle20----

No, I'm not sure at all that I'm clear of heavy metals. That's basically what I think might be the problem. I went looking for Humuvlifate and couldn't see it at any of the natural shops near me. I couldn't ask for it either, because I couldn't pronounce it Smile. I'm guessing I'll have to order off the internet. The only problem is, I honestly believe my hair will be gone in about a month. After tugging on it there I got 7 hairs with one pull. I'm going away for the next 2 weeks and won't be able to bring the supplements. Really bad timing. Please keep me updated with your progress. Are you also Salt loading?.

Iodine isn't the only mineral needed for the thyroid gland as I've come to find out.
