Swollen neck glands - Iodine? Thyroid Issue?
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or might have an explanation. For the past 3-4 weeks the glands in my neck (under jaw and near adam's apple) have been swollen and a little tender. Upon doing some light research I discovered that low iodine and thyroid issues are primary causes of this. The strange thing is though that I've been on Lugol's for probably more than a year, at times high dose (50 mg per day) at times lower (12.5 or even none some days). I started to notice the swelling around the time when I upped my dose again from none for about a month to approx 30 mg per day. Is varying the dose so much a problem do you think? Part of me thinks I should try coming off altogether for a while, but at the same time I don't want to do that if low iodine levels are to blame. Any one else experience anything like this? Thanks.

johnt - Also consider organification of iodine defects, which will correct using high doses of B2 (riboflavin) and B3 (niacin).

Jdp - I take 200 mcg daily. However, it's source is methylselenocysteine from this product http://www.jarrow.com/product/411/Selenium_Synergy
Do you foresee any problem with that?

Personally, wouldn't be without selenomethionine form for it's ability to detox heavy metals, mercury, etc.. Methylselenocysteine is good and all but more for the anti-cancer that can get stirred up with Iodine.
Best would be both forms.
Again, personally, I never got to the point where you were until I upped dosage to 1000 mg of Iodide. Higher amounts of selenomethionine fixed it. Forgot the exact amount but was around 800 - 1200 mg. At 50 mg of Lugol's pesonally would take 400 - 800 mg and see how you do.
If it still doesn't resolve would recommend CS's recommendation and also magnesium "malate" and companion nutrients.
Regarding what's going on now, I would definitely take a break or lower dosage until your able to fix problem.

Jdp - Interesting to hear how it occurred with you. I may try the other version of selenium and see if it helps at all..
Thanks
