Does aromatase really increase as we age or is it a break down of detoxification pathways?

It's well known that estradiol levels rise in men as they age but is this actually because the body increases the amount of aromatase enzyme that is produced?

Could it be that we don't have estrogen problems when we are young (at least we're not suppose to) because our liver's detoxification pathways are working correctly so the E is broken down as quickly as its made into safe metabolites. I'm thinking as we age this system becomes less efficient and estradiol begins to build up causing lots of problems. Or mabye it's a combination of both?

Any thoughts?
