Iodine Loading Tests - best sources?
Hello,
I'm curious to hear about any other users experience with an iodine loading test. I recently tried Hakala Labs and was pretty confused and unhappy with the results. The results returned to me were that I excreted more than 100% of the iodine intake.
For those of you who don't know, the test is to take 50 mg of iodine and collect your urine over a 24 hour period. After which time you return a vial of the urine/excreted iodine mixture back to the lab (and some data like total urine excreted over the 24 hour period). They obviously figure the iodine % of the vial and then use it as a % of the total urine excreted. In my case, it was implied that I was taking an iodine supplement 48 hours prior to the test (which I wasn't) or I did not record the correct total urine figures.
I was wondering a few things. Has anyone had iodine loading tests and what their experiences were. Or is it even needed? I've been supplementing small amounts of iodine for several months now (first about 5 mg, now about
. I'm thinking of just upping my iodine doses on my own without relying on the loading test.

12.5 mg per day is a good amount to take regularly.
