Zinc question...

Post  isaac on Wed Jul 23, 2008 8:27 am

Immortal,

What is you're prefered form of zinc? I've been using Zinc Monomethionine (Opti-zinc) for years and information on it is pretty sound in regards to it's effectiveness. I've noticed Zinc Picolinate starting to pop up what are you're thoughts on this form? Also I noticed Hans Nieper carries Zinc orotate anything on this?

There was an excellent thread on an old acne board that I used to visit and basically a large number a people with acne found out they were lacking zinc they tried all of the availible forms of zinc with opti-zinc the only form showing improvements some of which were dramatic. Picolinate/Orotate were not around at this time and was just wondering if they were even better?

Also I know some of the fillers in supplements are not so good for example Magnesium Stearate is a hydronated oil i'm not about to throw my supps out as it's the best we can do currently. Do you know anything about dibasic calcium phosphate? I have some Source Naturals supplements and this is in quite a few and with the doses I take i'm getting sometimes 1g per day of dibasic calcium phosphate and I know we have been lied to when it comes to calcium when the problem is magnesium/potassium.

Thanks

isaac

isaac - Both Picolinate and Opti-Zinc are great, and the only way to out perform those is Zinc Orotate.
At worst dibasic calcium could have lead, but usually it's okay and is just a filler.

Thanks...it was just that dibasic calcium phosphate was present in much greater amounts than I have usually seen in other supplements like I said sometimes I would getting 1g of this stuff everyday.

I'm taking zinc gluconate powder from LEF and high dose biotin right now and they've drastically reduced my shedding.

People over at acne.org do seem to respond to zinc gluconate, but zinc picolinate is the most popular one over there. There are many complaints that zinc oxide doesn't do shit, so i'd stay away from that one.

Pharma Nord is a local company to my location, their zinc product is bound with gluconate, I think it is OK stuff.

thanks for reply. I realised that zinc is essential to take for diffusse thinners like me. I know that oxide rather make a mess in your body than harmony. I would love to take a powder like you but i could not get it...

I'm on zinc gluconate as well..seems its well absorbed. 30-100mg seems to be what's recommended.

Although I found out today that soy milk can inhibit its absorption so won't be using it to take the supplement in future.

Interesting this says copper toxicity can determine how effective the zinc is for you re: acne :

There is always a great food-based product from New Chapter .Have a look:

http://www.iherb.com/New-Chapter-Zinc-Food-Complex-60-Tablets/67?at=0

It 's surely more expensive but check out two reviewers saying:

" The food complex form of zinc really works well. This is the first form of zinc where I really feel it is being absorbed by my body."

" Such a great product. I had a really low zinc count and this is the only zinc product that was able raise it dramatically. Also great for people with Acne problems. Seen some really good results on other people."

Where can one get zinc orotate?

Thanks cpio. I wonder if they have zinc gluconate in my local pharmacy. We´ll see. I would prefer picolinate but it would be a real problem to find it here.

CS and others, is there any point in adding zinc to a topical (a la the zix formulas)?
